It’s nesting season – time for sprucing up and sprinkling bits of cheer throughout our spaces. Of course we can all agree that the memories we make with family and friends are what fundamentally make a home. But intertwined in those memories are bits of subtle somethings that stamp those images in our minds. Smells and sounds are instant conduits to those nostalgic memories. So, whether it’s a beautiful bowl of clove oranges sitting on the kitchen counter or a crackling fire in the background, remember that simple touches will ignite your guests’ senses and mark the moments of the season.
And if you want to share sense-provoking gifts this holiday, consider one of the following:
Candles
- The PF Candle Co. has a great selection of seasonal scents. My favorite is the mistletoe candle, and I look forward to getting it each year. The spruce is also lovely for those of us with artificial trees.
- HOME C GOODS is another great candle option. The wicks are made of wood that cackles when it burns. It’s so lovely to hear the crackle in the evening when the day’s noise dies down. I adore the cedar and vanilla combo.
Herb Garden
Bring the outside in with a small herbal garden. The greenery will brighten the spirit during the cold months, and it’ll fill the kitchen with warm aromas when cooking. Paper Sushi offers a nicely packaged green thumb garden set.
Tasty Treats
- If you’re looking to share a culinary treat, check out Tone Wood Maple. They have the most interesting maple edibles made in Vermont from local trees. Tone Wood Maple is organic, eco-friendly, and sustainable… and they even offer tree adoptions! Who doesn’t love the idea of adopting a tree!?!
- M. Greenwood Jams are delicious! Spread some on toast Christmas morning or even try a dollop of the meyer lemon ginger in a holiday cocktail.
Soaps
- If you like to put out special soap for holiday gatherings, consider Plant Life’s options. They have amazing scented soap bars. Sandalwood is my favorite in winter.
- I recently discovered Chivas Skin Care. They use fresh goat milk from their farm, all natural oils, and fair trade shea butter. Cinnamon clove and the spruce needle are sure to be delightful encounters for guests.
- Lastly, Dr. Bonner’s Soaps are a choice all purpose soap and cleaner. You can use it as hand soap or to wash dishes. The wonderful peppermint scent lifts my spirits year round! And they work toward promoting organic integrity, fair trade, and animal rights (pocket guides).
Remember, small gestures can influence the mood of your home. So, liven it up and share some cheer.
Happy holidays and happy memory-making!
